Tavin's Room

This is SOOO late, but better late than never right?

Here's the before:

It was quite the mess after a while and really needed a good cleaning!

In transition:

And the after (please ignore the clutter!)!

The monkey that we just HAD to have

Book "rack" that I made.  Turned out so good!

Just a few other things we handmade in the room

The changing table and shelf for diapers (by Shaun)

The mobile

The wall art.  I saw so many things on Etsy that I liked and came to the realization I could do it myself.  So I made the art on the computer, printed it out, and modge-podged it to some scrap board that Shaun cut for me.

There were a few other little projects.  Like a switch plate cover, closet markers, diaper pail liner, burp rags, fitted crib sheet...the list goes on!

Minnie's First Month!

I can't believe we've had Minnie for a month already!  She has been quite the interesting cat!  But we both agree that she was the best fit for us!

Minnie had her spaying and front paw declaw surgery shortly after we got her.  She did great!  The vet's office fell in love with her and they had to pry her out of someone's arms when Shaun went to pick her up!  She is starting to get some hair back on her belly and leg.  But it's too cute to see her shaven belly.  It looks like a little troll!

Her "look at me I'm so cute and want attention pose"

She has already found her favorite spots in the house:

the back of the couch

on the first step to go downstairs

most recently in the dog's bed

Oh and a few times in the dogs' toy box

Being the good fur mommy that I am, I made her a little bed.

Even Sadie liked it!

It turned out pretty good for a quick 3 hour project!  I used fabric I already had and even used some scraps from the burp cloths I made!  I stuffed the scraps in the main part of the bed and it made for some ultra soft bedding!

And Minnie's most recent discovery....her tail!  We've caught her chasing it a couple of times and it's a riot!

Baby Shower Fun!

I hosted my best friend's baby shower last weekend.  The days leading up to it were pretty stressful as I was trying to finish some things I was sewing for her gift.  Actually I had been working on sewing her gifts for quite a while...the date just snuck up on me!

So here is what I have been working on the past couple of months...

Burp cloths and lots of them!!  I have so many more that I have to finish yet too!  I absolutely love how they turned out.  Hopefully my friend will enjoy them too!

My first time trying to sew a baby block.  I used scraps leftover from the burp cloths.  It turned out pretty good.  A little lopsided but it works :)  I also made some taggie toys but I forgot to take a picture of them :(

I put these bibs together in about an hour the night before.  I would have liked to make more but just ran out of time!  They look so tiny so I hope they will work okay.

And my diaper cake!  It's not the prettiest thing in the world but I wanted something, small and fun.  I used only one pack (about 50) newborn diapers to create this two tier wonder.

The awesomely delicious cake!  I haven't had a cake that good in a LONG time!

Measuring the momma-to-be's belly.  The person that one the "string" game was about an inch too long!  Not bad at all!

The guests to the shower!

The Momma!

My cousin, momma to be, and their friend

Momma to be and me :)

And the whole gang (we used to go "clubbin'" back in the day)

The entire day went smoothly.  The games we played were enjoyable and everyone seemed to have a blast and enjoyed the food.  Yay!

Now You See It......

. . . now you don't!

I decided to make a cover for our Kitchenaid stand mixer.  I was worried how it was going to turn out because the directions I had gotten here were lacking in the detailed description part.

So I sort of modified as I went and as I thought the directions were incorrect (at least the way I was reading it), but I had managed to make it work!

Before:

After:

I will probably make a little hook and loop to keep the pocket from slipping forward.  The other bad part that didn't really turn out (and you can't see) is the back part.  It only goes about half way down the mixer.  This is where (I believe) the directions were incorrect....oh well!

After sewing this I found this AWESOME tutorial.  I only wish it would have came up in my google search when I was initially looking....
