Bassetfest!!!

We were super excited for Bassetfest 2010!

A little background on how we got here. We adopted Sadie from Basset Buddies Rescue (BBR) in March 2008 and have been invited to go to Bassetfest since but just did not have the opportunity with planning the wedding...... until NOW! Bassetfest is BBR's main fundraiser. It's a good time for all, especially the hounds since they get to roam free.

We got up bright and early on Saturday morning....Sadie wasn't sure what was going on....and made the long (3 hour) trip to Muskego, WI.

Upon arrival:
Shortly after we got there the first competition began: Smartest/Most obedient Basset! The hounds had to sit down. If they moved, they were eliminated; the last one still standing, wins. Here's Sadie concentrating hard:

The competition lasted maybe a minute or two (too much distraction going on for the hounds) and Sadie WON!!!!! She got a cute little paw trophy that we forgot to take a picture of.

After Sadie's hard work, she found her favorite spot for the weekend:


Shaun and I had to volunteer at the sales tent and Sadie hung out with us there. We couldn't pass up this shirt though:

It says: "Have you hugged a basset today?" So cute! Maybe people will stop calling Sadie a beagle if they read the shirt!

Sadie wasn't really feeling the weekend....too many hounds...too many unknowns....Shaun thought maybe she felt we were going to abandon her since her first family did...who knows.....


Now on to more competition!! Sadie's ear and tail were measured. She won silver for shortest ears (7") and gold for shortest tail (13"). It's crazy because the winner of longest ears had a length of 13"!!!

There was also a competition for Fastest Basset. There was about 6 other hounds racing and they had to run from one end of a volleyball court to the other. We weren't sure how Sadie was going to do since she was out of sorts but she did great! Sneaked by for a victory and the gold!!


And last but not least.....I won a silent auction prize and a hat was in there and I was wearing it on Saturday. Shaun said it looked so cute on me so I convinced him to try it on and took this picture as evidence!!

Oh what an awesome weekend it was! It was the perfect way to end our busy August!
