Sam has become more comfortable around the house, which is amazing considering he was kenneled/boarded for more than a month! He's also lost additional weight! When he came into the rescue he was a whopping 70 POUNDS! Now he is down to a svelte 57 pounds! He is looking handsomier (is that a word?) by the day!
Sprawling out on the couch!
And of course we can't forget our "original" furbabies! Sadie was actually snuggled up with me! Doesn't happen very often so I take it when I can get it!
And kitty! She's boycotted her food and lost about 3 pounds in the last couple of months :( We bought new food last night and she is gobbling it up! Hopefully she'll be alright!
Last but not least! Sadie and Sam playing! It's so amusing to watch them "go at it". I apologize in advance for the noise in the background but the Packer game was on!

Introducing....Sam!
It's official! We are foster parents again!
I went to pick up Sam on Saturday in Portage. It had snowed a couple inches the night before so thank God the roads were mostly clear.
When I arrived in Portage, the people that were transporting Sam from Illinois had just arrived. Can't really time it any better!
On the ride back, Sam was antsy. He whined quite a bit but he never got out of control. When we got back home, I took Sam to the backyard and went inside to get Sadie. Sadie came running out and they joyfully greeted each other and ran around the yard a little bit and then it started.....the humping!
Every time Sam would get close to Sadie he would greet her and be all nice and then go to her backside and start humping. Sadie would snap at him and he would get the hint and walk away only to come back a few seconds later and try it again! Can we say typical male??
After their meet 'n greet in the back yard. I took them for a walk. Boy was that a challenge! First of all Sam is not accustomed to "Northwoods" weather and his paws kept freezing up on him. And then oh yeah...did I mention he likes to hump Sadie? Yes, that continued on our walk in between his paws freezing up. On top of all of this, Sam is a BIG boy. He weighs about 60 pounds (lost 10 already). He carries most of it in his shoulders (READ: almost immovable). Somehow, I managed to make it home without having to carry Sam home and without falling down.
After our walk it was time for supper. I thought it was going to be easy since most hounds like to eat. Well this guy really wasn't interested in his food. Okay no biggie. We'll try it again later.....
The rest of the evening went well except for the occasional humping.
He slept as well as can be expected for the first night. We took him out three times during the night. There were plenty of times were he would whine but we ignored him.
Sunday morning we tried feeding him again....no go! He would just spit out the food! We decided it was time to buy a brand he was more familiar with so he would at least eat a little.
With it being Sunday, we got ready to go to church. We put both dogs in their respective crates. We had a few stops to make...Petsmart to get Sam's dog food before church, and then Menards after church to look at some flooring for redoing our basement. When we arrived back home a few hours later, a dog came rushing to the door!! Yes Sam broke out of his crate! Thankfully the only damage he did was taking some garbage out of the bathroom garbage bins.
Sunday afternoon and night, Sam was much more relaxed. He actually laid down while I worked on some of my sewing projects. He also slept much better. Only getting up when Shaun came home late from work.
Monday, Shaun and I both had to work during the day. I took Sadie with me and we left Sam in his crate. I went home at Noon to let him out and take him for a quick walk. When I got home, he came running to do the door! He broke out of his crate AGAIN! When I left for work, I put him in his crate and bungee strapped the door shut! Crossed my fingers all afternoon that it would work. When I got home, he was still in his crate! Success!
So after you've read all this you probably want to see some pictures, right?
Well here you go!
Trying to "chill out" in the craft room
Sadie's mastered the "chill out"
Playing with his new favorite toy...a mini raccoon
He LOVES the couch!
So wish us luck as we venture on with Sam! It should be interesting to see how he adjusts in the coming months!

BREAKING NEWS!!!
I've been e-mailing back and forth all week with BBR to arrange our next foster.
We tried to get one a few weeks ago, but it didn't work out. The dog was a Basset/Australian Shepherd mix and it snapped at Sadie after only a few seconds.
This time it is a all Basset so we are a little more assured of its temperament.
Here's a sneak of what I will be picking up tomorrow:
Wish me luck as it sounds like he is full of energy!

Blue Man Group!
Last week, Tuesday, we went to the Blue Man Group with my brother and his girlfriend. Before the show we went out to eat at the City Grill. Food was okay, but expensive. It took a little while to get our food so in order to get to the show on time we had to inhale it! We made it to the theater with plenty of time. The show was to start at 6:30....it came and went....6:45 came and went.....and we took some pictures.....
7 came and went....Finally around 7:15 someone came out and said that there was some computer glitches and they were working on fixing them and would probably be another half hour before the show would start! Seriously!!?!?
Finally around 8 the show started!
Here's a few pictures that the local newspaper took.
It was definitely an experience but not something I would pay to see again. The show dragged on and had a lot of awkward silent moments. I was expecting more of a music filled show but it was more of a digitized show. My brother and I were in agreement that Stomp was MUCH better!

I know this is a little late but I wanted to make sure things get posted in the order they occurred....that's the OCD in me!

Got married! It was the best day of my life and something I thought would never happen!
2. Did you keep your New Year's Resolutions and will you make more for next year?
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier
b) thinner or fatter? Thinner

No. Thank goodness! We have been very fortunate!

Shaun's 30th Golden Birthday Celebration!!
The day was busy spent running errands. To the grocery store to pick up a few last minute supplies for the evening festivities, to the bank to drop off the property tax (uck!), to work to do a few things, to the other bank to deposit some money, to our adopted grandparents to borrow the truck to take the brand new, broken snowblower in to get fixed, to the barber to get Shaun's haircut, back to the grocery store to pick up forgotten supplies, and finally back home to get ready to go out! Phew! Sounds exhausting just typing it!
When 6 p.m. rolled around we were out of the house! Off to El Mezcal to start the fun!
Rollcall: Shaun, Mel, Brad (#2), Lucie, Leanne, Drew, Val, April, Keith, Syd, Andy, Connie, and Syd's cousins, Wylla, Kelly, and Sumi. Yep that's a lot! So I figured we should all wear name tags. But someone thought it would be a brilliant idea if we wore someone else's name! Very confusing by the end of the night!
We were the last ones out of the restaurant (our goal) and went home to dance it up! Keith brought his Wii and Shaun rented Just Dance, the Michael Jackson Experience, and Trivial Pursuit.
Let the games begin!
First up! April, Shaun, Val and Leanne!
Next: April, Brad, Drew, and Leanne
Round 3: Brad, Shaun, Drew and Leanne
An Encore performance by Brad, Shaun, Drew and Leanne:
Hammertime:
A little girl time:
And one of the last of the evening:
All in all it was a great day! I don't think it could have went any better :)

The birthday boy...wearing the birthday necklace but not the birthday hat! Shame on him! But, it's his birthday so he can do whatever he wants! That's what I kept telling him all day.... |
They put a cactus in the big jug! No more trying to see if Leanne will fit. Shucks! |
Clean plate! Always seems to happen at El Mez! |
Our waiter was such a good sport. He had such an American name so we decided to give him his own name tag...Julio! |
Me and Leanne photo bombing the other large group that was there! |
Not sure what this was all about..... |
Leanne must have said something to warrant a head smush! |
Shaun's birthday fried ice cream....got passed down the table as it doesn't taste the greatest after margaritas |
Leanne's interviewing groupies who went back to the hotel with Ying or was it Yang? |
